** As a SAMPLE, Week 7 down to the "Resources" Heading has been written inside Word 2003 and saved as a Filtered HTML document. The Source Code was then pasted into SBI to build this page. The altered format from that of the original document has not been corrected. After the "Resources" heading the words were written inside an HTML Editor, then pasted into SBI.
GOALS FOR WEEK
7
1.. Finish
building one Level 1 or HomePage, and
2.. One Level
2 Page
3.. Link them
together
4.. Test for
proper HTML writing
5.. Upload
with confidence.
6. Submit the
pages to Search Engines.
7.1 WebPage Building
A..
No Frills Webpage Building
A “No-Frills” building of a Webpage is
a 'time-honoured' tradition of past Webmasters using
mini-wordprocessors like Notepad. They
would write directly in html code. It was used because when
saved, it saved NO special characters
in the top, and throughout. Only what was essential was saved
- the words you typed in.
A simple webpage in MS Word when saved
in various HTML formats has different sizes:
HTML Full
format – 144 lines of code 5KB (5000
characters) in size
HTML Limited format – 71 lines of
code 2KB (2000 characters)
Rewritten in an:
HTML Editor (EditPlus) - 26 lines
of code (but could be 12) 1KB (1000 chars)
An HTML Editor is a “fancy” Notepad
that enable you to easily add bolding etc with buttons.
The overheads will make an impact as
your site grows. It is difficult to go back to previous files and rewrite,
as you wish to “move forward”. Unless
there is some imperative (server storage costs are very high, site is
very slow ??) you will not rewrite.
Here are two alternatives:
1..
Use MS Word - format and upload. Suggest save as two
files: DOC and as FILTERED HTML
A bolded
word is translated into bolded word when saved.
Advantages: quick
and requires NO experience is HTML code.
Disadvantages: Using filtered HTML overcomes the large extra overhead
imposed by Word HTML.
2.. Use MS Word + Notepad and upload.
With “Filtered HTML” in Office
2003, using Notepad is of a lesser value. Although in a
recent
experiment, the same page in Notepad was 25lines and 72 in Filtered Word HTML.
Advantages:
Notepad enables only essential HTML commands needed for the Webpage to be used.
B.. Intermediate Webpage Building
Could be
easier than #2 above.
Use a simple HTML Editor
. EditPlus
www.editplus.com $30 USD - simple, no fuss and yet powerful;
. Trillian Webpage
http://www.trellian.com/webpage/
is FREE. Purchase other products eg Submission Wolf
. Araneae
http://www.ornj.net/software/araneae/
is also a FREE Editor and the simplest. Simple could mean
“complex”
to manipulate though.
Once the buttons are learnt, HTML Editors are easy to use and save hours
of effort.
Week 7 has covered your writing of a
Level 1 HomePage ands a Level 2 page.
Week 7 has investigated a Submission
Tool to submit your pages to Search Engines and Directories.
WEEKLY CREATIVE THINKING
Some similar thinking here happened after Week 6, but let’s ensure the direction is best, and there is a passionate (energy) and profitable idea. Most important, is the Goal: what personal SMART goal do you have that ensures that you climb over, under or around any hurdle, looking for the hidden opportunities within.
Read the "Ant Philosophy" at the end of this page - don't forget to come back.
Don't you think the Ant's have it right - never give up ... over, under, around any hurdle.
Reconsider your Goal. Look over your Keywords and how you have placed them onto a Site Map: Your Level 1 HomePage Theme/Site Concept Keyword is one of the most valuable and profitable and fits with your USP and UpSP.
Your Level 2 Specific Keywords relate to your Level 1 Specific Keyword and enable you to easily write pages that will answer your visitor's question for why placing this word(s) in a Search Engine, or solve a problem and take away the “pain”.
Your Level 3 Keywords are less valuable, but will brings hundreds of smaller groups of people to your Site, and some will venture onto your Merchant partners.
Read over your HomePage and the Level 2 Page on the Internet. Reread these notes and how they apply to these pages.
Write a list of Questions for Warren.
Submit them via the Form below.
Provide some feedback … this is really helpful as this course runs in Term 4.
Enjoy your achievement - congratulations.
WEEK 8 ... What is on ?
Round up.
Week 8 will look over this period of building one of the most exciting business models in the 21st Century.
Week 8 will look at tools to Track, Monitor and Analyse your traffic and site.
Week 8 will look at some tools that assist placement of your work into Search Engines.
Week 8 will also discuss more techniques to optimise your site.
"Over the years I've been teaching children about a simple but powerful concept - the ant philosophy. I think everybody should study ants. They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit.
That's a good philosophy. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, they'll climb under, they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way.
What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you're supposed to go.
Second, ants think winter all summer. That's an important perspective. You can't be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.
An ancient story says, "Don't build your house on the sand in the summer." Why do we need that advice? Because it is important to be realistic.
In the summer, you've got to think storm. You've got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead.
The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, "This won't last long; we'll soon be out of here." And the first warm day, the ants are out.
If it turns cold again, they'll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can't wait to get out.
And here's the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the "all-that-you-possibly-can" philosophy.
Wow, what a great seminar to attend - the ant seminar. Never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.
To Your Success,
Jim Rohn."
